Certificate Program

Certificate Residency Program in the area of

Integrative Health and Ecology

at the Acology Institute of Myra House

 “ACOLOGY” DEFINED

  1. [Gr.- Akon: remedy, healing +logie: science]
  2. [A: Agapic : love (i.e., serving, welcoming, freely given, universal, and benevolent)-centered + Eco: oikos-ecologically-grounded + logie: integrative study of the human person and environment]

PURPOSE

The Acology Institute (AI) educates future leaders in service to others of the local and global society facing ecological crises and human illness. AI’s interdisciplinary immersion program integrates the human and environmental ecology for individuals from diverse ethnic, national, religious and cultural groups. The goal of the curricula and residency program is to promote intellectual growth and wholesome character that is nurtured by an integration of three areas: contextual learning, individual and group action, and cognitively-oriented contemplative reflection.

AI offers a 6-month semester residency program that can be extended up to 3 years for a total of 6 semesters. A certificate in Integrative Health and Ecology will be awarded upon the completion of each semester.

EDUCATION MODEL

The AI educational model was conceived to be an emerging school as a catalytic agent for restoring the health and dignity of the human person and the ecological integrity of our natural and built environment in both local and global contexts. The learning context is designed as a practical community setting where students’ intellectual growth and characters are cultivated. Students engage in a monastic rhythm of study, work and meditation by experiencing an intentional way of living with devotion to projects to address the widespread human and environmental challenges.
